American Express published its Intent Intelligence Framework on October 13. It aims to record confirmed purchase intent before an AI agent pays.

Customers authenticate themselves and approve constraints such as merchant and maximum amount. An Intent ID and Proof of Intent Token are then issued.

The token can obtain a payment credential scoped to that authorization. The technical original also describes changing, revoking and expiring purchase intent.

Amex presents the approach as part of its ACE Developer Kit. The documents describe intended controls, not independently measured protection; responsibilities and required data vary by integration.
