Anthropic is launching a cyber defense program for critical infrastructure and open-source software. Announced on October 8, its Cyber Mission brings frontier Claude models, engineers and threat research to providers protecting power grids, water systems and transportation networks.

Anthropic names eleven founding partners for its Critical Infrastructure Defense Program. The initiative aims to speed up vulnerability discovery and repair; its launch does not establish broad risk reduction.

The new OSS Scanner also offers free regular scans to enrolled open-source projects. Its model-generated reports are sent without prior human review and can therefore contain incorrect findings.

Projects unable to review these reports themselves are to continue receiving human-verified disclosures through Anthropic’s coordinated process. The faster channel explicitly requires maintainers to opt in.
