Alex Turner, Amber Scorah and Karl Koch call on October 12 for mandatory independent AI audits. Turner also publishes their joint commentary on his own LessWrong profile.

The former DeepMind researcher and the founders of Back Channel and the AI Whistleblower Initiative want legal protection for employees who cooperate with outside evaluators. They back Grassley's whistleblower bill and Moran's proposal to report serious AI incidents.

The authors point to the disputed dismissal of three OpenAI safety researchers. OpenAI denies firing them for raising safety concerns and says it is finalizing contracts with external assessors. The motives remain independently unresolved.

Turner, Scorah and Koch also seek criminal liability for executives who suppress oversight or recklessly release models. Their proposed safeguards have not been tested for effectiveness.
