Germany’s Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs wants people to retain oversight of AI shopping. Its report, presented on October 8, sets out 25 recommendations for commerce through shopping agents.

The council recommends spending overviews and budget limits beyond which agents stop proposing purchases. Ongoing shopping tasks should be visible and cancellable with a button.

It also asks lawmakers to review attribution and liability when agents exceed their remit. The council proposes distinguishing between systems according to how much control users retain.

These are expert recommendations in a report with a July 26 editorial cutoff. Its illustrative scenarios explain potential problems; they do not establish new real-world incidents.
